tutoring and technical advice

If you are a current student in the university system, a recent graduate, or a potter who began as a hobbyist and has set up a studio at hime, you may be experiencing a lack of technical support and attention. I offer one to one tutorials remotely, and throwing lessons in my studio, alongside glaze technical guidance, problem solving etc. If you feel you would benefit from this please get in touch with me via the contact form. Prices vary depending on the nature of student needs, but are affordable for all.

What I can help with

Kiln firing programmes, home studio set up

Glazing, glazes and slips (application and development)

Form and throwing advice, critical feedback on your work

Kiln building

development tutorials

material supplier advice, cost saving techniques

clay body development

diagnostics of problems in firing, glaze imperfections etc

Why work with me?

I manage all aspects of the Clay College full time diploma and am responsible for all aspects of material understanding, firing, glazes, and management.

In my diploma I weighted my time to experimental research across multiple kiln atmospheres and designs (oxidation, reduction, soda, wood)

I care about socially sustainable practice, reducing reliance on industrial materials, and making potters more self sufficient (dropping commercial glazes for the 10 fold cheaper practice of making your own etc)

I love teaching and working with people to develop them creatively, and I invest in everyone I work with and care about their development
